About the Job

We are looking for a Vice President to join our Investment Team. The Vice President will be responsible for communicating effectively with outside investment managers, completing in-depth due diligence on investment strategies focused on climate change, and helping to shape the team’s research agenda, strategy, and theory of change. A central part of the role will be the evaluation of impact investments which are values-aligned, ESG integrated, thematic, and catalytic in nature, to achieve a total portfolio management approach. Information compiled from the research must be formally presented to Senior Investment Team members clearly and succinctly in a group setting. Duties also include report writing and ongoing reviews of all pertinent information with respect to prospective and approved funds, co-investments, and direct deals. An important component of the role will be networking with potential partners and like-minded impact investors to build the team’s pipeline of potential investment opportunities in the dynamic realm of climate investing.

Job Responsibilities

  • Complete financial and impact related due diligence of existing and proposed investments; including market-based solutions to climate change, particularly around deep decarbonization technology strategies and nature-based solutions, both domestically and internationally
  • Perform qualitative and quantitative analysis of manager attribution, decision-making, and GHG reduction in alignment with environmental megatrends (e.g., mitigation and adaptation technology, regenerative agriculture, ecosystem service markets, environmental justice, etc.)
  • Collaborate with other members of the Investment Group on a variety of projects related to asset allocation, manager selection, shareholder engagement, risk management, and annual impact reporting particularly focused on net zero transitions, climate disclosures, stranded asset risk, etc.
  • Attend manager meetings and conferences to build a network of prospective fund managers, thought leaders, and peers both within the US and globally, spanning policy, academia, financial services, etc.
  • Assist advisor teams in aligning client investment portfolios with science-based targets to net zero portfolio management
  • Present research and thought leadership to advisors, clients, and prospects
  • Generate field-building, thematic research on climate finance to guide manager research priorities and serve as a thought leader across various environmental topics (soil carbon sequestration, climate resilient infrastructure, clean energy transition, etc.)
  • Track and contribute to industry standards including impact management and measurement methodologies and frameworks (UN Principles for Responsible Investing, GIIN’s IRIS+, UN Sustainable Development Goals, Impact Management Project, etc.) for integrated reporting
  • Assist in monitoring investments aligned with climate frameworks, impacts and risks, including NZAMA, TCFD, SBTI, PCAF, GHG Protocol, etc.

Qualifications

  • Master’s in environmental science or management, sustainable finance, or a similar quantitative field of social or atmospheric science, with exposure to energy, natural resource economics, agriculture, climate, etc.
  • 6-7 years of climate science experience (NGO, R&D, etc.) with previous experience in financial services strongly preferred
  • Ability to analyze financial/investment-related data in Excel
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to write and present clearly with minimal editing/oversight is critical
  • Ability to self-manage deadlines and projects with an entrepreneurial attitude
  • Ability to work within small and large groups
  • Highly organized with a strong attention to detail
