About the Job

The Funders for Regenerative Agriculture (FORA) is seeking an entrepreneurial Executive Director Consultant to manage a five-year (2019-2024) strategic initiative to scale the field of regenerative agriculture through investment and philanthropy.

The ideal candidate for this position will bring vision, a demonstrated track record of leadership and management, the ability to navigate strategically under rapidly changing conditions, and a collaborative work ethic to our small, entrepreneurial, and versatile team. FORA is a growing network of foundations, individual donors, and investors dedicated to advancing land management practices that support people and planet. FORA’s 22 member organizations represent land stewards, researchers, storytellers, strategists, holistic managers, community leaders, organizers, and advocates.

FORA is an Allied Initiative of the Global Alliance for the Future Food (GA), along with sister Allied Initiative, Transformational Investing in Food Systems (TIFS).

FORA’s core work focuses on pursuing strategic initiatives in a deeply collaborative way. Currently, FORA’s activity is primarily channeled through its Working Groups, which include Strategic Communications; U.S. Policy; and PEER, a COVID-19 response fund that prioritizes Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) groups. FORA also provides pathways for introductory learning and connections for funders and investors newly interested in this space.

If you’re ready to step into this role, you’ll be able to demonstrate:

  1. Strong understanding of the impacts of, opportunities in, and barriers to the adoption of regenerative agriculture
  2. Commitment to integrating equity and justice as core components of regenerative agriculture
  3. Ability to foster collaboration among a diverse group of funder-members
  4. Strong communication and promotional skills, including the capacity to engage with and recruit additional investors and donors to the initiative
  5. The capacity to inspire passion for the initiative and its mission
  6. High tolerance for complexity
  7. Ability to work closely with FORA’s existing Managing Director and Steering Committee
  8. A deep commitment to the mission, values, and strategic goals of FORA
  9. An equally strong commitment to the GA’s mission, principles, values, and strategic priorities.

Qualifications

  1. 10 + years of experience in food systems work combined with a strong record of achievement; a significant emphasis on experience relevant to this role
  2. second A high level of energy for FORA’s vision, mission, principles, values, and role within the landscape
  3. A proven track record as a strong and inspiring professional comfortable with sharing power, leadership, knowledge, and credit
  4. An established depth of experience facilitating, guiding, and managing strategic networks
  5. Experience managing relationships with senior-level stakeholders in the public, private, and/or nonprofit sectors
  6. Openness to diverse points of view and the ability to promote collaboration, conflict resolution, and decision-making
  7. Comfort working within the global and North American funding communities
  8. An effective team player and relationship-builder
  9. A high level of discretion and commitment to confidentiality
  10. Evidence of effective oral and written communication skills
  11. An undergraduate degree or comparable professional experience; a graduate degree considered an asset
  12. Flexible schedule for a sometimes unpredictable workflow and the ability to travel when public health conditions allow
