Innovation & Strategy Specialist

About the Job

The Innovation & Strategy Specialist will provide primary facilitation and project management for the corporate concept to market (C2M) process. C2M is an innovation process to bring new concepts to market and to bring existing programs and initiatives to scale. The Specialist will work collaboratively with most internal departments to ensure buy-in and ultimate success of new concepts and scaling efforts. The successful candidate will also play a critical role in providing guidance and research for concepts as they seek approval. Other duties include assistance with corporate strategy activities and internal evaluation efforts.



  1. Concept to Market (C2M) facilitation and project management
    The Specialist will assist in implementing strategy and innovation work on behalf of Capital Impact’s business units and other stakeholders. Duties include:
    Serve as an internal subject matter expert related to the C2M process
    Manage all concepts active in C2M from a process perspective
    Provide support to staff seeking approval for concepts – provide feedback to draft versions of relevant materials, maintain meeting schedules, document decision points and necessary follow-ups, ensure appropriate cross-team engagement and communication
    Conduct quantitative and qualitative market research to vet new concepts and for scaling of existing programs and initiatives
    Maintain an accessible pipeline and information repository to track concepts through the approval process
    Work with company leadership to evaluate new opportunities
  2. Corporate strategy support
    The Specialist will contribute to Capital Impact’s corporate strategy development. Duties include:
    Provide data analysis related to Capital Impact’s work, including lending and non-lending activities and impact data
    Engage in quantitative and qualitative research related to market conditions and opportunities for greater impact in communities
    Translate quantitative and qualitative data into clear frameworks, presentations and digestible communications for executive leadership
    Refine understanding of core audiences
  3. Internal evaluation
    The Specialist will support internal evaluation efforts. Duties include:
    Collaborating with lending team and program leads to design effective survey documents for data collection
    Managing appropriate data collection efforts
    Analyzing and presenting insights garnered from data collection efforts
    Enhancing data systems related to non-lending programmatic activity
  4. Other corporate duties
    The Specialist will support corporate-wide projects related to policy, communications, and fundraising. Duties include:
    Assist with internal communications and internal staff trainings related to our work
    Contribute to fundraising proposals
    Ad hoc research and information gathering efforts


Bachelor’s degree in Business, Innovation or Entrepreneurship with a minimum of 1-3 years experience in strategy, innovation, program management and/or a related field a plus, or High School Diploma or equivalent with 5 years experience in a related field
Collaborative and flexible with a wide range of internal and external partners and the willingness to play a range of roles as the project warrants
Demonstrates proficient use of technology to develop spreadsheets, presentations and other written documents/reports, etc.
Creates complex documents, spreadsheet analysis models and advanced graphics
Drafts, edits, proofreads internal and external correspondence
Strong interpersonal (verbal and written) communication skills
Be a self-starter who can prioritize tasks and manage deadlines
Detail-oriented, and organized, demonstrating an ability to meet deadlines and achieve goals
