Team and role overview
The Business Manager role supports the MD of the Impact Group (Chief Impact Officer) who is an ExCo member at CDC. The Group consist of 3 departments: Development Impact: Investments, Evaluations, Research & Policy, Value Creation Solutions (VCS): Job Quality, Climate Change, Gender Equality, Human Capital, CDC Plus) and Environmental & Social Responsibility (ESR). The Impact Group is currently approx. 70 people and growing.
We have 7 layers in the group: PA/EA, Associates, Executives, Managers, Directors and team heads, MD. This role sits within the Manager level.

The role of Business Manager will be to work closely with and support the MD of Impact Group and her management team. The role will be varied and includes: Ensuring project management of change/new processes/policies are communicated and implemented Supporting the growth and management of the teams through headcount management and day to day support to the MD and her management team Dealing with data request, producing reports and materials for meetings, events and conferences. Represent Impact Group in internal and external meetings where appropriate

The role is a new role and the person joining will be able to use their background and skills to scope the role.

Responsibilities Supporting MD and team heads
‒ Support the MD of Impact Group in management of the teams as well as in her role as ExCo and Investment Committee member, incl budgets and information knowledge management. Project/Change Management/Process Re-engineering
‒ Own/lead/support work streams and high-profile projects that sit within Impact Group, incl. process re-engineering, strategic projects and change management,
‒ Drive discussions around operating events and process improvements to help mitigate operational risk within Impact Group,
‒ Documenting and communicating process changes,
‒ Promote and provide necessary training on CDC, business and regulatory policies and procedures, Reporting/Meetings/Actions/Document prep
‒ Own the Impact Group management meeting: include organise, setting agenda, minute taking, ensuring timely and quality input of the meeting; arranging external participants; keeping track of delivery on action items etc,
‒ Taking the lead on preparing for ExCo/Board meetings
being sighted on calendar and items coming up; ensuring timely actioning of deliverables, e.g. papers that go to ExCo/Board; collate quarterly Impact Group reports),
‒ Taking a lead on preparing documents and presentations for DevCo and DFiD, taking ownership of activities and output and or project manage them for timely delivery.
‒ Support the IG in refining the processes for input to the Investment Committee and QPRs across all teams in Impact Group to ensure clarity of roles and responsibilities,
‒ Taking a lead on reporting within Impact Group – such as reporting library, unifying layouts, reducing duplication, easing data sharing and data feeding and ensuring confidentiality where required.
‒ Help management in organizing and preparing presentations, events and conferences internally and externally

Organisational Development ‒ Maintain the organisational design, incl. taking a lead on the annual headcount process. ‒ Supporting the Team heads on the recruitment process incl. ensuring job specs are produced/updated and stored ‒ Participate in CV screening/interview process where relevant ‒ Supporting team heads on promotion and progression process Proxy for MD/Team heads ‒ Over time develop into a proxy, who can represent Impact Group/sub teams re other internal departments, and act as a conduit/proxy between MD/Impact Group team heads where appropriate ‒ Develop close links with other CDC areas Ad Hoc ‒ Ad hoc request, such as assist team/stakeholders/ExCo/board/DFiD with data requests, and business continuity

The candidate

Strong project management skills, certified PM an advantage Previous similar experience as Business manager, COO, Chief of Staff of equivalent within Investment company/Impact Investment or equivalent Alternatively, you may have worked in within ESG, Development Impact, Impact Investing, business strategy or in DFI, Investment banking M&A, Private Equity or Strategy consulting Relevant degree/MBA or equivalent

Skills Ability to engage with and influence senior stakeholders Good analytical skills Strong communication and influencing skills Good MS office skills, in particularly power point presentations

The role may require some travel but is primarily London based and would be open to consideration for reduced hours/flexible working
