Acumen is seeking an part-time Pipeline Development Associate to help recruit and select for our next civic accelerator program.

The Civic Accelerator program within +Acumen is focused on for- and non-profit startups intent on addressing social issues.The three-month, boot camp-style program convenes 10-15 teams in person and online. We equip them with the skills to secure investments and scale their social innovation.

The Role
We are seeking two, part-time Pipeline Development Associates to help recruit and select for our Fall 2019 program, the “Future of Work.” The Associate will work independently and collaboratively with the team to develop a pipeline of qualified entrepreneur applicants and local partners. You'll encourage strong applicants to apply and assist in the cohort selection process. A successful Associate will become the “go-to person” for their region, as well as the eyes and ears on the ground for the leadership team. Accountabilities include:

Research and Pipeline Development
Generate (on average) 5 new venture leads each week
Facilitate one-on-one conversations and informal interviews with these new leads to gauge fit and create excitment and awareness around the Civic Accelerator at Acumen
Close at least 50% of desirable/highly desirable leads to by guiding them through the Civic Accelerator application process and ensuring that the benefits of the program are adequately communicated.
Upload and track lead development in collaboration with other fellows and the Civic Accelerator Leadership team on shared Google spreadsheets
Report status of all leads in weekly Civic Accelerator pipeline check-in calls
Develop and maintain 1 new pipeline partner (other accelerator, university, investment fund, fellowship, etc.) each week to source referrals, develop new partnerships, and gain insight into social impact accelerator best practices.
Develop and maintain at least 5 new marketing channel relationships to promote and distribute civic accelerator news and updates (social media outlets, newsletter announcements, local blogs, publications, etc.)
Attend at least 2 different related networking events in your area each month. The Civic Accelerator will provide up to $20/month for admission fees to local social entrepreneurs meet-ups, demo days, and networking events where potential candidates might be in attendance. Associated receipts must be submitted for event fee reimbursement.

Applicant Review and Cohort Selection
Screen and review assigned applicant entries alongside the Civic Accelerator Selection Committee during the venture selection process
Advise the Civic Accelerator Selection Committee on any finalist applicants from your region.


Skills and Qualifications
Able to communicate clear ideas across a variety of mediums (in person, phone, email, web). This role will involve a lot of outreach.
Able to work independently and in large groups.
A "no fear" attitude toward talking with people you don't know
Experience navigating large databases and document sharing platforms
Extremely detail oriented
Genuinely interested in civic engagement and social innovation
Self reflective and aligned with Acumen values.
An undergraduate or graduate degree in Business, Nonprofit Management, Entrepreneurship, Economic Development, Public Policy, or related field.
Knowledge of the major players and thought leaders in the social innovation space
Prior experience in social enterprise, nonprofit, startup, civic engagement sectors preferred
Professional experience in sales, client engagement, or business development preferred.
Permanently authorized to work in the US.
