About the Job

The Controller will manage the day-to-day accounting function for IMPACT’s existing and new investment funds, its wholly-owned Registered Investment Adviser entity, and its clients. The Controller will be responsible for building financial models; producing financial statements, management reports and annual budgets; preparing for the annual audit; and overseeing the filing of its annual tax returns. The Controller will also develop, implement and monitor internal processes and controls and will serve as the primary liaison with auditors and tax accountants. The Controller will also assist the President; Director, Accounting & Operations; and other executives with special projects.

This is a compelling opportunity for an experienced fund accountant to make a significant contribution to organizational growth, acting as a supportive thought partner to IMPACT’s executive team and staff. Reporting to the Director, Accounting and Operations, the Controller will manage two financial analysts.

Responsibilities include:

Financial Modeling / Budgets
● Manage annual budget processes, ensuring that all activities are forecasted and reported appropriately, and that variances are tracked, justified, and reported throughout the year
● Based on historical data, business planning, and year-to-date activity, produce updated forecasts throughout the year
● Review all special project budget-to-actual reports for compliance with budgets and/or other financial covenants
● Project management fees associated with existing and prospective assets under management
● Monitor spending, conduct expense analyses, recommending operational efficiencies/cost savings, as appropriate
● Ensure proper cash management; maintain appropriate bank accounts and adequate cash for investment programs and other cash needs, transferring excess cash into Money Market investment accounts on a monthly basis (or as necessary)
● Analyze program budget-to-actual results, review of special project budget-to-actual reports for compliance with budgets and/or other financial covenants

Accounting and Reporting
● Oversee the day-to-day general accounting operation required to maintain general ledger and associated subsidiary ledgers and books of original entry for all companies, including accounts payable, notes payable, loans receivable, other receivables, cash receipts, fixed assets, cost allocation, etc.
● Manage the finance and accounting team to operate with excellence and a service orientation, ensuring the execution of operational finance activities (e.g., management of accounts payable and receivable, fund tracking, reporting, etc.)
● Actively seek to improve and streamline IMPACT’s accounting systems, processes and procedures with sustainable and scalable solutions
● Review monthly bank account reconciliations and prepare monthly cash flow statements and assist Director, Accounting and Operations in monthly cash flow or other analysis reports
● Regularly present complex financial information to internal and external stakeholders, such as investors, partners, auditors, etc.; oversee preparation of or assist in gathering required data for certain Board and Committee reports
● Oversee the day-to-day general accounting operation required to maintain general ledger and associated subsidiary ledgers and books of original entry for all companies, including accounts payable, notes payable, loans receivable, other receivables, cash receipts, fixed assets, etc.
● Manage annual financial audits of all related entities; prepare and/or review all audit schedules; act as liaison with auditors; drafts audit reports and notes to financial statements
● Manage the preparation of annual financial statements and tax returns, collaborating with external accountant and other vendors, as appropriate
● Prepare monthly internal management reports, providing timely and accurate financial information as requested
● Manage annual financial audits of all related entities; prepare and/or review all audit schedules; act as liaison with auditors; drafts audit reports and notes to financial statements
● Manage the tax reporting process and prepares and/or review all tax schedules; act as liaison with tax accountants

Internal Controls
● Maintain strong financial controls; ensure the integrity, accuracy and usefulness of all financial processes and reports
● Maintain a proper segregation of duties and internal control structure
● Monitor and ensure compliance with internal control guidelines and procedures
● Recommend additions or changes to existing guidelines and procedures
● Document, and/or maintain documentation of all internal fiscal control policies and procedures
● Train accounting staff and other staff, where appropriate, on internal control guidelines and procedure
● Review and post Journal Entries in QuickBooks

Qualifications

● Past Experience & Professional Qualifications: You have a minimum of six years of accounting experience at an investment advisory or financial services firm (experience with fund and investment management preferred) and hold a current CPA license in California
● Content Knowledge: You have advanced knowledge of GAAP fund accounting and proficiency with accounting software (QuickBooks preferred)
● Management Experience: You have a demonstrated ability to lead, inspire, and motivate individuals and teams to achieve ambitious outcomes, coaching staff while also holding staff accountable for meeting goals.
