About the Job

The Director of Philanthropic Development will drive philanthropic partner development and stewardship at PRIME Coalition, a high impact, cutting-edge non-profit organization focused on mitigating climate change through charitable investment. This is an opportunity to help build a precedent-setting organization that stands to unleash the power of financial markets for social benefit. The Director will own PRIME’s philanthropic growth strategy, recommend improvements over time, and implement those improvements across all deal pipelines and in collaboration with all PRIME team members. The Director will originate and manage relationships to ensure a high level of philanthropic partner satisfaction and repeat participation in PRIME transactions. The Director of Philanthropic Development will relentlessly promote and evangelize PRIME’s mission.

Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:


  • Oversee and drive improvements to PRIME’s philanthropic growth strategy to meet and exceed fundraising targets
  • Drive PRIME's approach to “charitability” analyses of start-ups' potential climate impacts and investment attractiveness
  • Support PRIME's Investment Advisory Committee – a group of leading cleantech venture investors

Sales & Marketing

  • Cultivate new leads for all PRIME’s philanthropic priorities, ranging from charitable investment in high impact start-ups to operating support for PRIME’s non-profit mission
  • Close new leads and current philanthropic partners across PRIME’s philanthropic priorities, working with and supporting teammates as needed
  • Update PRIME’s website as needed
  • Curate, design and deliver PRIME’s email newsletter three times per year
  • Participate in public-speaking engagements to build support for PRIME’s model and mission

Account Management

  • Manage and steward all philanthropic partner relationships, marshaling other team members as needed
  • Plan and execute stewardship gatherings
  • Manage PRIME’s shared team calendars for reporting and external events
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director in fulfilling all reporting requirements
  • Manage CRM system itself and ensure its effective use across the team


Education & Experience

  • Graduate degree in Business Administration and/or another relevant field
  • 5-10 years of experience in sales, marketing and/or non-profit fundraising
  • Proven ability to develop and close leads within the philanthropy sector
  • Proven ability to manage and build lasting philanthropic partner relationships
  • Proven ability to conduct quantitative and qualitative strategy evaluation
  • Proven ability to manage an effective CRM system
  • 5 years growing and managing a team preferred
  • 2 years of experience within a philanthropic organization (foundation, DAF, family office, corporate giving program) preferred
  • Experience in venture capital preferred
  • Experience in energy systems and/or climate change mitigation preferred

PRIME Coalition

PRIME Coalition is a 501c3 public charity that partners with philanthropists to place charitable capital into market-based solutions to climate change. Since PRIME’s founding in 2014, we’ve facilitated charitable investments with over eighty philanthropic partners and mobilized over $47M into extraordinary early-stage companies, using traditional grants, recoverable grants, program-related investments, and high-risk, mission-related investments. Our goal is to encourage as many philanthropists as possible to join our tribe, including foundations, donor-advised funds, individuals, corporations and grantmaking public charities.

PRIME’s long-term success will be measured by our portfolio companies’ impact on reducing global greenhouse gas emissions. In the short-term, our success is defined by key performance indicators such as the number of first-time philanthropic investors and first-time climate grantors we mobilize.
