Environmental and Social Senior Officer (m/f)

About the Job

Key responsibilities:

  • Conduct initial environmental and social assessments and undertake due diligences of projects or Partner Financial Institutions to evaluate compliance with the environmental and social requirements of the fund
  • Define steps for clients to meet the requirements with the fund’s policies
  • Support the Investment Management team on environmental and social related issues and the incorporation of environmental and social standards and guidelines in transaction documentation
  • Oversee the supervision of the environment and social performance of the investments in the fund’s portfolio
  • Provide training on environmental and social issues to Partner Institutions as well as internally
  • Monitor projects or Partner Financial Institutions in relation to all environmental and social matters over the lifetime of the investment
  • Ensure the alignment with international best practices of the environmental and social policies and guidelines of the fund
  • Liaise with stakeholders, investors and experts in relation to environmental and social matters

Qualifications

What we expect:

  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in assessing environmental and social development aspects of private sector business activities
  • A degree in an environmental subject or in engineering or agronomy, or a similar degree with relevant additional training and work experience on environmental and social matters
  • Track record in working with private sector firms across industry sectors (including agribusiness and/or financial sector) to identify environmental and social risks, issues and mitigation measures
  • Experience and/or familiarity with indicators capturing effectiveness of environmental and social management in the context of financial institutions and real sector projects
  • Experience and/or familiarity with the IFC Performance Standards
  • Ability to develop mitigation measures to ensure compliance with good international industry practice
  • Strong analytical skills, ability to think strategically and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Excellent command of English and Spanish (written and oral)
  • Team player with strong communication and interpersonal skills also in multicultural contexts
