Sustainable Agribusiness Specialist (m/f)

About the Job

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead concept development and strategic support in a wide variety of areas, including sustainable agriculture practices, mitigants to climate change in agriculture and value chain development
  • Provide technical advice on agribusiness-related issues as needed, particularly related to supply chain issues and specific commodities of interest to the region
  • Support scoping and assessing risks/opportunities of agribusiness investments and identify technical assistance opportunities
  • Develop ideas and concepts for joint advisory and investment products for existing and/or potential clients
  • Analyze the sustainable agriculture loan portfolio of local financial institutions
  • Contribute to identify technical assistance needs for financial institutions and their customers
  • Conduct market research on sustainable production methods and its interaction with funding sources
  • Promote eco.business fund activities at conferences and technical forums
  • Develope presentations, demonstrations, training and farm walks for clients, peers, partnership organisations, professional bodies and other interested groups
  • Research and keep up to date with any relevant developments in agriculture
  • Prepare reports, writting advisory leaflets and technical notes and contributing with technical information for all investment proposals
  • Support the organization of learning activities/events

Qualifications

What we expect:

  • At least 10 years of elevant experience in Latin America or other developing markets
  • Master's degree in a field related to the position (environmental studies, engineering, agronomy or similar)
  • Excellent technical knowledge of sustainable agricultural practices in a wide variety of crops in Latin America (including new production techniques and technologies)
  • Experience in coffee together with experience in at least two of the following areas desired: livestock/poultry production, cacao, rice, sugarcane and or tropical fruits
  • Experience with certification programs (UTZ, Rainforest Alliance, FSC, MSC/ASC) and sectoral initiatives (ISEAL, IFOAM, etc.)
  • Experience in the provision of technical assistance to financial institutions and/or farmers and producers in the region
  • Experience in the financial sector and / or financial institutions for development (IDB, IFC or similar) is desired
  • Ability to work in cross-disciplinary teams and provide cross-support
  • Excellent communication skills in English and Spanish, including ability to write clear, succinct reports
  • Able to communicate ideas clearly, articulate issues and recommend solutions
  • Willingness to travel internationally on a regular basis
