About the Job
New Island Capital Management seeks an Associate to join a small team focused primarily on direct investing in real assets. Typical investments are focused in the following sectors: green real estate, sustainable food & agriculture, and sustainable forestry. The Associate would participate in market research, transaction due diligence, financial analysis, and portfolio management activities in support of a deeply mission-focused investment practice.
The Associate will work closely with multiple investment professionals on the Real Assets team to support mission-aligned investments in green real estate, farmland and timberland. The Associate will also assist with investments in sustainable food and forest products enterprises in an investment practice that is focused on both environmental and community outcomes. The Associate supports new investment due diligence processes through financial modeling, financial statement analysis, property characterization, reference calls and industry research. The Associate will also contribute to post-investment management through work with New Island’s CFO group, investment partners, asset managers and other third-parties that provide services to New Island’s property investments. Finally, the Associate will complete sector and/or regional landscape research to identify financial value drivers, community & environmental impact goals, new deal sourcing approaches and promising investment opportunities. The successful candidate will help to continually expand the knowledge base of the organization.
New Island Capital seeks to recruit an outstanding candidate who has a demonstrated passion for not only the investment business, but also for the organization’s mission and core values. Specific qualifications include:
- Relevant undergraduate degree in business, finance, economics, real estate or natural resources. This position does not require a graduate degree.
- Two to four years of relevant work experience in finance, mission-focused investing,
real estate or natural resources management. Demonstrated ability to create valuation analyses and financial projections required.
- Experience in real property acquisitions strongly preferred.
- Outstanding investment, analytical, quantitative and communication skills.
- Candidates must demonstrate the potential to be creative, flexible, resourceful and
disciplined in supporting a complex mission-driven investment plan.
- Candidates must also be comfortable working in a dynamic, entrepreneurial
organization without the analytical support or infrastructure generally available in
